All last week, we were plagued (okay, I might be being a little dramatic), or maybe just inconvenienced, by water outages. The series of outages this time around were not nearly as drastic or prolonged as the ones back in late September and early October, but we were happy when, last Sunday, they seemed to be over. On Sunday night/Monday morning, however, we heard a commotion in the lower levels of our house. We live on the third floor and it was really late (maybe 1am or so), so we didn’t investigate. The next morning we woke up to city employees jackhammering apart the street below our bedroom window. It turns out that, after one blissful day of continuous water, the pipes just outside the front door decided to burst and the noise the night before was our landlords attempting to quell the flow of the water that was flooding the first floor. Amazingly, the city was actually quite efficient and we had water back by about 1:30pm.
