This is the second in a series of posts this week to catch up on a few things we missed. When we didn’t have a camera, we got pretty lax about blogging, but there were a few interesting things happening. This week, before posting about Annette’s visit, we’ll highlight a few of those events.

Next up we have the Feria de Utiles. All summer (as well as the rest of the year), the kids who come to the program regularly earn points. During the school year they can use their points to buy small items such as pencils, erasers, soap, shampoo, etc. … Once a year, about a week into the school year, we have a Feria de Utiles (or school supplies fair) to outfit them with whatever they might need to start the school year.

After Gloria left her station with Meg to help Ryan, these two took over for her.

They spend the points they earned over the summer (15-30 for most of the kids, depending on their attendance) to buy whatever is on their school supplies list. The entire staff worked at this event, as well a few of our high-school-aged English students.

A local school supplies store also came to sell items that we don’t offer. It was really fun to see all the kids come in with their parents and get so excited about buying school supplies.
