On the second day of Christmas, South America gave to me…

We wanted to do a series on the blog to capture what the Christmas season is like in South America. The title suggests we will write 12 such posts. It maybe more, it maybe less. That really depends on the Christmas cheer you provide, Ayacucho.

The day we got back from our trip to Ecuador, we had to the opportunity to go to a local store with GeGe and most of the other staff to shop for Christmas toys. We didn’t actually buy anything (it was more of a reconnaissance trip) but it was a lot fun. Here are some of the shenanigans that Ryan captured when people weren’t looking:

Wilbur, who I believe is the first employee Gege hired at KATC, was pretty excited by this toy motorbike.

This airplane came with a rather odd description, as as was fairly common for the toys imported from China.

Here's a closer look. Didn't know an airplane was supposed to be "lifelike and breathing".

Alejandro, far left, was on hand to assist. It's always a good idea to take Alejandro anywhere that may include bargaining. Here is looking at some of the toy cars GeGe picked to take up to the villages.

The toys are given to children in nearby mountain villages, that we will visit on December 22nd and 23rd, as well as to students at our school, during our Christmas party on December 24th. There is still time to donate if you’d like to help make Christmas special for children in Ayacucho!

*The next week, we went back to make some purchases. Some of the photos are from that trip as well.
